Australian Patty Mills made five triples and added 21 points off the bench as the Brooklyn Nets recovered from a bad finish the day before with a scorching start that led them to a 104-90 win over the Washington Wizards today.
Mills, who has a career average of 8.9 points per game, has twice scored 20 points or more for Brooklyn in what were only four games for the Nets.
“I try to put in that energy that the game needs,” Mills said after the game.
“Create that juice, that atmosphere where you can spread out and be contagious like that, impacting the game.”
After the game, all social media could be talking about Mills’ outstanding start to life as a Net after Brooklyn acquired the Australian guard from San Antonio during the off-season.
Mills’ former San Antonio teammate Tiago Splitter also used Twitter to celebrate the Australian’s stellar start in Brooklyn.
NBA superstar Kevin Durant scored 25 points for the Nets, while his MVP teammate James Harden finished with 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
Durant praised Mills after the game, stating that his approach to basketball is “inspirational for everyone”.
The Nets were dominated in the second half of a 111-95 defeat to Charlotte yesterday in their debut home game, which saw fan protests over the vaccine mandate that prevented Kyrie Irving from playing for Brooklyn.

They got through the poor three-point shooting nights of Harden (1 in 8) and Joe Harris (3 out of 11) keeping Washington under 35 percent shooting.
“I think we entered the second night of a back-to-back and imposed our will for the whole match,” Durant said.
Washington’s Bradley Beal scored 19 points but shot eight of 22 after missing a game with a bruised right hip. He took 13 three-pointers, making only three, and did not attempt a free throw.

“I liked the look and I was definitely confident in them,” said Beal.
“You know guys, I’ll be fine, I’ll recover. But surely I have to be better for my team in all respects and I think attacking the basket would have been a little bit better. I could have come to the line and put us in the bonus, create some chances also for other teammates “.
The Wizards won their first two games, but were already 18 points behind in this one when the Nets honored Spencer Dinwiddie with a tribute video after the first quarter of his return to Barclays Center.
Dinwiddie shot three for 13 and finished with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds. He averaged 14.3 points in 274 games for Brooklyn from 2016-21 before partially tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on Dec. 27 in the third game of the season and undergoing surgery.
