Tim Brando Leaves CBS Sports

Tim Brando
After 18 years as the face of college athletics for CBS Sports, Tim Brando and the network have parted ways. The announcement came roughly three weeks after “The Tim Brando Show” last appeared on CBS Sports (television) Network.

“It was a great run,” Brando, 57, told The Shreveport Times. “It maybe ended a little sooner than it could have. (The Tim Brando Show) cancellation didn’t have to impact things the way it did, but I’d be lying if I told you it didn’t play a role.”

Brando’s first gig with CBS came at the 1996 NCAA Tournament. His last was the Dec. 28 broadcast of Syracuse-Villanova basketball with Bill Raftery.

In addition to play-by-play duties, Brando has been the host of College Football Today for 16 years. He’s also dabbled in some golf coverage, including his recent online work at The Masters and a position in the 18th tower on the Champions Tour.

“I still have some goals for myself,” said Brando, a graduate of Fair Park. “I don’t know if I would have realized them traveling on the same course. I’m excited. Today is a good day. I’m well-served to have this opportunity to be available with all the moving and shaking in the business right now.

Brando’s radio show, available on XM 91, will continue. In addition to securing the next chapter of his TV broadcast career, finding the radio show another TV home remains a priority.

Tuesday, the industry was full of speculation regarding the ripple effects of Brando’s departure from CBS. Many feel the SEC Network or a full-fledged return to ESPN – a former employer – would be an appropriate destination for the veteran.
